This program can show the number of users in the chat on any HTML page. The JavaScript version can even be used on every server, not just the chat server. However the site visitor needs JavaScript to be activated in his browser. The SSI version works only on the chat server and needs SSI support on the server's side but it doesn't depend on the user's browser settings.
Important: With GTChat 0.95 you don't need an additional program any more. For the JavaScript version just insert the HTML code <script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.server.com/cgi-bin/gtchat/chat.pl?template=counter_js"></script> at the right place in your page (you have to use the correct chat URL of course). For the SSI version you have to write <!--#include virtual="/cgi-bin/gtchat/chat.pl?template=counter_ssi"--> instead (the chat URL has to be adjusted too, furthermore this usually only works in pages with the file extension .shtml - your server provider can give you more information on the SSI support).
